The first benefit of membership is a regular newsletter and commentary sent to you by e-mail. Jon writes his personal view of the wine world, and aims to supply you with interesting snippets and information although he admits that an occasional tirade or prejudice may elbow its way in now and again.

There are also regular free wine tastings, usually held in a local hotel. These are not in any way formal or intimidating, we just put out the wines we have selected, give you a glass and let you work your own way around. We are there to talk about the wines (or anything else) but we do not make a formal presentation or try to preach about them, we prefer to let the wines speak for themselves.

Most times we arrange an optional fixed price meal in the hotel afterwards to make the whole evening more special, and usually most people do stay for the meal which makes a very pleasant social event. The wines are offered at a special discount for orders placed on the night.

We also put on regular promotions for Tasting Club members offering special deals or discounts, details of these in the newsletters.

Red Wines for Christmas - 07/12/2009

My reccommendations for reds for Christmas drinking are as follows.
To go with turkey you need a relatively light style which won\'t overpower the flavour of the meat, I would try either Domaine St Louis from Georges Duboef at a mere £6.04, a Tomaresca from Italy at £8.24 (this wine showing really well in the current vintage) or a Brouilly from France at £9.38.
If you are having a goose you need something with some tannin in it to counter the fattiness in the goose meat, and I personally like a claret, Ch Grand Bertin St Clair at £9.97 (or £21.18 in magnums which look really impressive on the table) or Il Contessa Nebbiolo from Italy at £15.19 or a Vacqueyras at £11.53.
If Beef is the meat for you then go for a full bodied red such as a Tonada Reserve Carmenere from Chile at £7.26, or a Cotes du Rhone Domaine Santa Duc at £13.23, or a Rioja Riserva from LAN at £12.46 (or the Gran Riserva at £18.06 would be even finer - it is Christmas after all).
And for the cold meats on Boxing Day or just to open when friends call in a very pleasant mid-range Claret is Chateau Cluzan at just £8.79.
Whatever you choose from our range you know it is only on the shelf because we have tasted it and found it to be an excellent example of its type and good value to boot.
And do not forget - Red wine is good for you. Stay healthy the enjoyable way!
Jon
