The first benefit of membership is a regular newsletter and commentary sent to you by e-mail. Jon writes his personal view of the wine world, and aims to supply you with interesting snippets and information although he admits that an occasional tirade or prejudice may elbow its way in now and again.

There are also regular free wine tastings, usually held in a local hotel. These are not in any way formal or intimidating, we just put out the wines we have selected, give you a glass and let you work your own way around. We are there to talk about the wines (or anything else) but we do not make a formal presentation or try to preach about them, we prefer to let the wines speak for themselves.

Most times we arrange an optional fixed price meal in the hotel afterwards to make the whole evening more special, and usually most people do stay for the meal which makes a very pleasant social event. The wines are offered at a special discount for orders placed on the night.

We also put on regular promotions for Tasting Club members offering special deals or discounts, details of these in the newsletters.

White Wines for Christmas - 01/12/2009

It is time to think about what you want to be drinking over the Christmas festival; well here are my recommendations for the white wines.
To go with Turkey you want a wine which won\'t overpower the relatively delicate flavour of the meat, so I suggest any of the following:
Recession busters would include
Principe de Viano from Spain at £5.28 (this was very popular at our October tasting),or
Domaine la Prade sauvignon blanc from the south of France at £5.98.
Mid-range for a celebration you should consider
Verdiccio from Italy at £8.54
Kuki Riesling from New Zealand at £8.36
Hartenberg Weisser Riesling from South Africa at £7.97
For a full-blown, pushing the boat out Christmas go for
Rully 1er Cru white Burgundy from Olivier Leflaive at £14.77
Bacchus Reserve from Chapel Down in Kent at £10.84
Hartenberg Chardonnay from South Africa at £9.34
If you are having fish at some time over the holiday and want something a little drier
then I strongly recommend Cherverny from the Loire Valley at £8.17, Chablis from Domaine Hamelin at £11.92 and Sancerre from Lucien Crochet at £12.48.
All these wines are drinking very well right now and will enhance and complement your meal very well.
I will recommend some reds later.
All the best
Jon
