The first benefit of membership is a regular newsletter and commentary sent to you by e-mail. Jon writes his personal view of the wine world, and aims to supply you with interesting snippets and information although he admits that an occasional tirade or prejudice may elbow its way in now and again.
There are also regular free wine tastings, usually held in a local hotel. These are not in any way formal or intimidating, we just put out the wines we have selected, give you a glass and let you work your own way around. We are there to talk about the wines (or anything else) but we do not make a formal presentation or try to preach about them, we prefer to let the wines speak for themselves.
Most times we arrange an optional fixed price meal in the hotel afterwards to make the whole evening more special, and usually most people do stay for the meal which makes a very pleasant social event. The wines are offered at a special discount for orders placed on the night.
We also put on regular promotions for Tasting Club members offering special deals or discounts, details of these in the newsletters.

Rothbury Wines Tasting Club Newsletter December 2008
New wines great for Christmas
We have two new New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, a Hawkes Bay which is mellow, sophisticated and very smooth, and one called Kuki which is tangy, zingy, bursting with flavour and has great mineral depth, a real find at great price, if you like it you will love it!
Finca El Picador is also an addition to our range, two great value wines from Chile, the sauvignon blanc is fruit-driven but well balanced and very fresh and the Merlot is a lovely smooth warming red, both at £4.99 which is superb value.
Racers and Rascals is also a new label to us, from Australia and offering a great Chardonnay – not heavily oaked it is more like a European Chardonnay than the typical Aussie offering. Fresh and appealing. The Pinot Noir is also quite restrained but very typically Pinot Noir – think red Burgundy – and is astonishing quality for the price which is a mere £6.48 for each.
Cask Strength Malts
We have a new range of cask strength malts from Adelphi who select only the finest quality casks. We have offerings from Macallan, Glenrothes, Glenlivet and Caol Ila, and we also have their own blend of Islay whiskies called Breath of Isles. Prices vary as some are much older than others. They are not cheap but they are of superb quality and would make the ultimate Christmas present for any Whisky lover.
Great Packaging
Presentation is everything, and we have two super ranges of boxes for bottles. One is a classic wooden box with an inlaid band, very restrained but classy, and the other is a very attractive box covered with wine labels. They are all good quality and amazingly reasonably priced. We have single bottle carriers, three bottle and larger hampers. They transform your present into something really special.
Prices
All our prices have been reduced by the 2.5% reduction in VAT, though this will in time be offset as we buy in new stock which will have the increase in alcohol duty applied, so the message is get in quick while stocks last!
Opening Times
Our normal hours are 10am-6pm Tuesday to Saturday but we will in addition be open on Monday 22nd December. After Christmas we will revert to our usual days so we will be open on Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st, Closed New years day and open again on Friday 2nd.
Have a great Christmas, enjoy some fabulous wines and let me know what you think of our new ranges.
